Car Alternator Bearing Makes Grinding noise?

The rotor inside the alternator rotates on bearings, normally very high precision needlebearings, and these can fail. When they do you will hear a loud grinding noise.

If this bearing is worn out,then it has to be replaced.On some car models the bearing can be replaced.But if alternator itself is worn out then replace it as complete assembly.
Before replacing alternator,its always advisable to inspect,test and then replace alternator.

  1. Good point on spinning the bearings after oiling them! I did that, but I forgot to mention that into the blog. I might make an edit.
